Navigators Background and Calling

The Navigators of Canada currently minister in Canada to students on campuses. people in the marketplace, churches developing discipleship programs, and in international settings.

Overview

The Co-Campus Director role is a shared senior chaplaincy position that works with students on university campuses and oversees a team of campus mentors doing the same. This team helps students develop and grow in Christian faith through discipleship (Bible study, prayer, spiritual guidance and mentoring, teaching) individually and in groups (weekly meetings, spiritual conferences and retreats). It prepares them to similarly help others.

The time given to roles and responsibilities fluctuate based on the ministry needs, size of team and time of year.

The Co-Campus Director will be successful when staff teams are flourishing, students are being cared for, are invited to explore Christ and are being equipped as kingdom workers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Co-Lead: Oversee the campus team and direct the ministry, including shepherding, training, and coaching the staff team in Navigator ministry skills and vision and setting direction for the work.
  • Care: Build relationships with students and staff team, caring for them as whole persons and cultivating a healthy faith community
  • Invite: Model and encourage staff and students to introduce students to Jesus to understand and consider His invitation for relationship.
  • Equip: Mentor and develop staff and students as Kingdom workers who:
  • follow Jesus and abide in Him
  • know and live from the Scriptures
  • are on mission in community
  • are faithfully present with those yet to find themselves in Christ
  • disciple others with spiritual generations in mind

Activities and Duties in Support of Primary Responsibilities

SUPERVISION OF STAFF and CAMPUS MINISTRY LEADERSHIP 40%

  • Partner with your Co-Director to co-direct the ministry.

Activities will include but are not limited to: deciding together how to split and share responsibilities, meeting and praying together, committing to lead together as unified, keeping short accounts with one another, and being supportive of your co-director in all areas of responsibilities.

  • Shepherd and oversee campus staff team.

Activities will include but are not limited to: training and developing interns and younger staff, conducting annual performance reviews, coaching the team in: mission, relational dynamics, ministry effectiveness, assessment, scheduling and planning, MPD and walking alongside staff in a variety of life issues.

  • Determine direction and oversee the development of faith communities in collaboration with your campus staff team.

Direct and collaborate with team to set annual and short-term goals, plan and organize events, workshops, community outreach and retreats for all students (those who know Christ and those yet to find themselves in Christ); provide in-home hospitality as well as creating informal spaces to grow in relationship with one another and God.

  • Align your staff team with the broader work of the Canadian Navigators.

Activities will include but are not limited to: adopting national goals and initiatives, communicating well with your supervisor, developing partnerships between international and other Canadian Navigator ministries, collaborating with Navigator colleagues, and understanding and modeling compliance with Navigator policies and procedures.

STUDENT MINISTRY 20%

  • Develop relationships of trust and networks of friendship with students at Carleton University.

Activities will include but are not limited to: visiting and sharing life experiences with students on campus, in their homes, and at church, showing interest in their lives and caring for them.

  • Minister directly to those who show a spiritual interest

Activities will include but are not limited to: studying the Bible with students (those who know Christ and those yet to find themselves in Christ), leading small group discussions on spiritual topics, exploring personal questions, praying together, reading and discussing books, all the while mentoring with generations in mind and praying for the students to discern what next steps for growth are

  • Build and equip a student leadership team

Activities will include but are not limited to: training, mentoring, coaching, shepherding, via one-to-one interaction and small group discussions; and working alongside emerging leaders in ministry activities such as co-leading Bible studies, and planning events together.

PARTNERSHIPS & DEVELOPING CONTEXT 5%

  • Discern with others what God is doing amongst students at Carleton University and develop context for ministry to occur

Activities will include but are not limited to: corporate prayer and fasting; connecting with local believers and in churches and other Christian ministries; learning from Canadian Navigator staff; engaging in conversations in how the Navigator vision can be expressed and developed; developing a strategy based on the context for ministry

  • Network with churches, camps and local Christian ministries to partner for joint initiatives and to build up student ministry

Activities will include but are not limited to: speaking at youth or young adult events, serving at a camp, ecumenical prayer, attending network association meetings, church visits.

  • Build rapport with university representatives.

Activities will include but are not limited to: Introducing yourself, following university policies, being respectful of physical spaces, contributing through offering service.

TEAMS AND PROJECTS 5%

  • Assist in National Navigator Projects

Activities will include but are not limited to: Serving at Basecamp and with short-term mission teams, developing online discipleship tools, serving out of gifting and strengths; attending and contributing to conferences and training events.

  • Recruiting to Navigator Programs

Activities will include but are not limited to: recruiting students to GSP, Basecamp, short-term mission teams; and the Navigators Campus Internship.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT 10 %

Actively pursue scriptural and ministry development. Engage with national and local training priorities and initiatives. Activities will include but are not limited to: Bible studies, Navigator ministry leadership training, establishing an individual development plan; meeting with a ministry peer, Campus Leadership Team members, and mentors to assist with development; participate and take responsibility for setting up and running the Participant and Staff Safety program.

MINISTRY PARTNER DEVELOPMENT – 10 %

This job requires staff to raise their funds for their salary, ministry expenses, benefits and adminstrative costs. Activities will include but are not limited to: writing and distributing newsletters; meeting personally with potential donors; visiting, calling, emailing existing donors and potential donors; giving appropriate donor gifts to say thank-you.

ADMINISTRATION – 10%

Activities will include but are not limited to: submitting and approving expenses, developing budgets; submitting reports; active participation in annual performance planning and reviews(V2MOM).

Minimum Requirements

  • Passion for Jesus and active pursuit of relationship with Him
  • A working knowledge of Scripture and an active prayer life
  • A sense of calling to student ministry
  • Experience leading healthy teams
  • Ability to engage with others from a variety of backgrounds in authentic and relational ways
  • Proactive communicator, collaborative spirit, and team player
  • Strong work ethic with ability to self-start and self-manage schedule
  • Ability to recruit, train and mentor
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
  • Acceptance of, and written agreement, is required for the Navigators of Canada Statement of Faith, Lifestyle Conduct and Confidentiality Agreements.
  • A positive Canadian (or foreign equivalent) Criminal Record Check or Vulnerable Sector Check, as required.

Position Reporting

The Campus Director will report to a member of the Campus Leadership Team.

Hours

This is a year-round, 37.5 hours per week, salaried position. The months of September and May are significant times for this role. A typical work week runs Monday – Friday.

Overview
The Missions Project Manager role of The Navigators of Canada is tasked with managing the legal and administrative obligations of international projects that The Navigators of Canada are involved in, as well as giving leadership to short terms missions. It is expected that the work performed by the successful candidate will be rooted in, and flow out of, our primary organizational value: the passion to know, love and become like Jesus Christ.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage legal and administrative obligations of projects that The Navigators of Canada are involved in outside of Canada
  • Review and process applications for new projects from the field
  • Give operational leadership to short term missions trips
  • Track new activity and growth for international missions
  • Assist the operations of the International Missions Director in their duties as applicable

Other Notes:

  • The International Missions Project Manager is part of a Missions Leadership Team (MLT) led by the International Missions Director that also includes an International Missions Staff Care Manager and an International Missions Operations Manager.
  • This role will report to the International Missions Director
  • The Missions Project Manager will work in alignment with national strategic direction and will operate in compliance with organizational policy and procedure.
