As summer unfolds, many of us find ourselves with longer days and freer schedules. The relaxed pace creates more time for relationship building, which makes this season a good time to expand our disciplemaking beyond regular meetings. But what could that look like?

In the Gospel of Mark, we read how Jesus prioritized spending time with His disciples: “He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach” (Mark 3:14, NIV). Jesus understood that meaningful relationships are built through time spent together. Every meal, every meeting, and every joint activity is an opportunity to be present with people.

Looking to this scripture as our example, let’s ask ourselves this question: Who in your life can you really be present with this summer?

With its slower pace, summer reminds each of us to prioritize presence—to invest our time where it really matters. Whether it’s through conversations on the deck or collaborative community service, the time you invest in these next few months can have a lasting impact on the lives of those you disciple. So get shoulder to shoulder with people, bring your families together, and make some memories. These times could be building blocks to a more intentional relationship later!
